The world is waiting for QR code to be explode. I guess that the trend can be brought forward to now when mobile manufacturers produce phones with built in 2dcode reader.

Yes, Max, I see there is huge potential, we are in on the ground floor. In the way that Joomla/Mambo saw itself as the CMS for the masses, QR Codes seems to be set for the three way interaction between people, mobile phones and the web. I see the major stumbling block, at least in my country is that mobile data fees are so high on mobile phones that people are really careful about downloading any data on a phone and I mean even a 'light weight' web page. (I know I am).

Until that barrier falls, and it will with flat rate data cost plans, things are going to slow. A couple of things are going to lead the way. Either more high profile usage by celebrities and I'm talking about thought leaders from any field that have high profiles, from Brian Eno through Stephen Hawking to Nelson Mandela or for some mega huge corporation to pour some money into a high profile ad campaign that features QR Codes.

I know MacDonalds have used them in Japan as have a several other companies and of course Google have introduced a way in include them in their print advertising campaigns but non of these have really gone global....yet.

And at the end of the day now one will probably predict what the 'killer app' is going to be. It's not the codes them selves, it's going to be the way they are used that is going to catch the public imagination. Who guessed that when the then new mobile phone companies introduces small message sending for business users that millions of teenagers around the world would spend a good part of each day and large parts of their income on doing nothing else!

Personally the exciting thing for me is that they are easy enough to generate for the 'person on the street' so the production is democratised. It would be easy enough as thing stand for any Tom, Dick or Mary to set up a street corner booth in Timbuktu and start printing post cards with QR Codes on them. Hell, they are even in black and white, you don't even need a colour printer....

With the penetration of mobile phones into the developing world and indications seem to suggest that mobile networks are pretty resilient. If a few cell stations get washed away in a flood or hit by a quake it is pretty easy to get them up and working again. As far as I understand it even in places that are ravaged by war the cell phone infrastructure seems to be maintainable or replaceable.

Still on a lighter note when I pressed the members button at the top of the page I was very interested to see that out of the (currently) 14 members we are all from different countries. This really suggests that the idea here is what is important and that it is really a democratic idea. We are the 'Idea-prenures' TM of the QR Codes revolution. Yeah!

We're certainly at the front of the thinking about this and this forum is a great start (thanks Max). I'm sure we will al have our own 'take' on where all this will go and tons of good ideas, lets share them and who knows some of them may do some good, do well and maybe even make some of us some money along the way......

Any more thoughts folks?

These are just some of the things that QR Codes can be used for:
Use QR Codes with your eBay Store, business cards, or flyers. Use QR Codes, Datamatrix barcodes, or Aztec barcodes for mobile ticketing or coupons. Use QR Codes to sell your videos, songs etc.

You can see demos on our site https://www.ventipix.com. They are free to use, mobile compliant and come with detailed stats.

Cheers,

Perry

There are many ideas I have observed with the usage of the QR code. I'm trying to get out front of the surge here in the U.S. and exactly what all that will encompass is yet to be developed. Tagging "things" with the code is the first step for me. I observed a seminar where instead of handing out the print brochure the organization utilized the QR code for attendees to capture with their phones. All the info then was posted online and where was in the code. Slick move for the global planet.

I also saw an online demo regarding the use of the code on a "Help Wanted" flyer. The employer needed the employee you was in the know. Now that was slick too.

So hello to everyone from around the world. I'm glad you are here and Ng ~ thanks for starting the group.
